Wilt on High: (Wilt Series 3)

Description

Wilt is back - in form, and in a good deal of trouble. Henry Wilt is still teaching at the Fenland Tech, attempting to drill English into plasterers, dozing through tedious committee meetings and occasionally getting mildly plastered in 'The Pig in a Poke' with one of his few bearable colleagues. But the even tenor of his days is rudely interrupted when the shadow of drug dealing flickers across the Tech. Suddenly Wilt becomes the target of suspicion. His colleagues believe him to be responsible for triggering a departmental inquiry, and his old adversary Inspector Flint, knowing that he's guilty of something, sees a chance to settle a number of scores. What starts with an accusation of voyeurism in the staff lavatory (of the wrong gender to boot) leads, more or less directly, to a massive confrontation at a nearby US airbase with the forces of law and order on both sides and Wilt in his usual place - in the middle.

A set of novel contributions exploring the sociology of 'market devices' - the analysis of the various sorts of technical instruments that intervene in the shaping and reshaping of markets. * Explores how market devices are set to configure economic calculative capacities and observes the part they play in the marketability of goods and services * Includes a wide array of objects that have been often overlooked in sociological analysis from pricing models to merchandising tools, from trading protocols to aggregate indicators * Analyses the performative aspects of knowledge and expertise needed in adjusting and calibrating marketing devices * Includes original empirical material from the emerging intersection between economic sociology and science and technology studies Take a truly technicolour tour of one of the most remarkable construction projects of 2009 in all its architectural glory. British broadcaster, writer and toy 'nut-case' James May lived a childhood dream by designing, building and sleeping in a quite stunning full-size house inspired by and completely made from LEGO, one of the world's most favourite toys and a design icon in its own right. James May's Lego House provides a complete photographic record of this stunning creation which now proudly holds the Guinness World Record for the largest free-standing LEGO structure. However, this is not a simple recreation of a childhood vision of a house but is fully informed by the 'simple complexity' of LEGO's design philosophy centring around the basic 'eighter' brick. Indeed, 3.3 million LEGO elements were used exclusively to create the two-storey house and its incredible fittings that range Wilt on High: (Wilt Series 3) free ebook from a washing machine, furniture, cat and mouse, bed and bedding and fully functioning shower and toilet.
